  TL Christmas 2016 Check-In
Posted by: CombatWombat - 12-24-2016, 10:04 PM - Forum: The Smoke Pit -- General Discussion - Replies (13)

Same as last year. Talk about your Christmas. I get Christmas earlier than most of you degenerate fucks, so here's a thread.

Where'd you go? What'd you eat? What's your haul?

Nice quiet Christmas this year. Good eats, including the biggest fucking oysters I've ever seen - Herself's got a mate who works in aquaculture, and it turns out he felt generous. Cheers Jerome.

Now we all pass the fuck out.

Haul, me

- new moleskins
- the candied nuts Herself does wot I like
- The Smallest Kite In the World
- New boots. Individually wrapped, one from each Joey.
- Ermagerd berks. Letters of General John Monash and something esoteric about cricket.
- Full allowance of socks and jocks
- Magnetic chess/checkers set
- homemade fruit leather

Haul, her

- Salvador Dali wrote a cookbook. It's just been reprinted. I'm proud of this
- sheet music
- the perfume she likes
- Teeny tiny Rubik's cube
- framed copy of her favorite poem
- the fucking oysters. Getting them donated to Christmas menu for everyone is just a bonus
- Berks. Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel, North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell
- bottle of chilli schnapps

Haul, kids

- Every fucking toy in Australia. New bathers and beachtowel each. Womboy's first pocket knife, Wombaby's first real compass.

  Home for the holidays
Posted by: Taz - 12-17-2016, 11:21 AM - Forum: The Smoke Pit -- General Discussion - Replies (7)

I haven't been home since 2007, and it wasn't for Christmas (it was my sister's wedding in October), and so I'm missing my family.
I thought it would be fun to read stories you guys may have about visiting family during the holidays.

So, how many of you go home this time of year, and do you have any family traditions (other than kissing your sister)?

Share your funny/wacky/crazy or serious stories here. Smile

VetVPN - Free Military VPN for Secure, Private, and Unrestricted Internet Access
Posted by: CuttingScores - 12-10-2016, 04:28 AM - Forum: The Smoke Pit -- General Discussion - Replies (14)

Good morning Marines. I posted a thread the other day on another military related group asking about peoples interest in a free VPN network aimed at military members and their families. I received a lot of positive feedback on the idea so I started developing the website and prepping the main server for where it will reside. After much work it is finally done and I would like to invite anyone to use/test out VetVPN and let me know what you think.

for Christmas avs!!!

I picked my favorite Christmas movie.  Show off your American, and Christian, spirit this next month, otherwise you're just a terrorist that worships Satan and hates freedom.

Who's in?

  TL Meetup: Arizona Boogaloo
Posted by: IamIan - 11-26-2016, 03:21 PM - Forum: The Smoke Pit -- General Discussion - Replies (7)

Since I got screwed out of meeting these guys this summer (No shit, I wanted to go out and see this this summer, they were doing this right down the road from Chrysler HQ, but had to go home and pack my Jeep up that night. Angry )

Seriously, if you're gearhead, you NEED to watch this show. Hell, even if you kinda sorta know something about cars, you probably need to watch this show. Finnegan and Freiburger are a couple of editors at Hot Rod and Roadkill is basically nothing but them doing the most hilarious, most sketchiest shit with old, even sketchier cars.

Anyways, I saw this recently- http://www.roadkill.com/save-the-date-meet-roadkill-jan-14-2017-at-tucson-dragway-in-arizona/
Anybody interested? I know there's a few TL'ers in Arizona (Looking at you, Gabe and Tiki) and I thought there were a few in SoCal as well...

We wouldn't have to spend ALL our time here, but the event will consist of-

"All the stuff you expect from us!

– Drag Racing
– Burnout Contests
– Roadkill Giveaways of stuff and junk. Maybe even a car?
– Swap Meet
– Camping, maybe a campfire! Like camp, but with less wedgies and homesickness.
– Hanging out. Freiburger, Finnegan, and Elana will be there, and there are plans to kidnap the HOT ROD Garage guys and Dulcich and hopefully Fred and make them come too. (Don’t tell them. It makes the kidnapping harder when they are warned.) F&F are bringing a bunch of Roadkill cars, and the best part is that they won’t be filming or otherwise busy. Just there to hang with you all. This is a super chill event, no big sponsors, just a small entry fee (probably $15-$30 depending on if you’re watching or racing). We just want to spend some time with you in the desert like totally normal, not-creepy internet friends." (Their words, not mine.)

Granted, if you watch the show, you should already know that these two are totally unopposed to burgers and beer and/or other automotive-related shenanigans (I.E. valeting one of their POS cars at a casino lol.)

  Any EOD techs here?

I figured I'd give TL a shot and see if any EOD techs / or anyone has been to EOD school give me some info on the school. I'm interested and I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into before I do ask for it.
