  Presidential Service Program.
Posted by: Dead Dog - 10-02-2016, 08:40 AM - Forum: Question and Support Board - Replies (2)

Some of you folks on here tell me about this please. I have done some research but I know there is more to it than I found. The reason I'm asking is because no. 1 Son is now a Marine and is at Pendelton for ITB right now.
He enlisted on a 6 yr contract for security forces but was selected for this PSP and is going to D.C. after his SF training. I just want to know some stuff is all. Just anything really. As you can imagine I extremely proud of him but also mind blown at the same time. Never expected this. Thanks in advance.

Big Grin Best Punishments!
Posted by: IamIan - 09-19-2016, 04:04 PM - Forum: The Smoke Pit -- General Discussion - Replies (22)

So today I was reading some click bait article on the "31 Best/most hilarious/whatever Punishments Ever!" and I couldn't help but noticing that a lot of them were from folks in the military. Which got me thinking, what are some of the most creative/funny/best/whatever punishments TL has seen? I'll get this ball rolling...

Go to clothing and sales one day after work for a ribbon or a new pair of boots ersumsuchshit. As I'm walking into the strip mall clothing and sales was in, I see a dude standing next to the door in a motorcycle helmet, reflective vest, gloves, ya know, all the shit Army regs say you need to ride a motorcycle holding a piece of cardboard basically saying "I got busted riding a motorcycle without proper PPE which consists of..."  Turns out dude bought a crotch rocket, was showboating around with it, without a motorcycle endorsement or the proper PPE, and got busted. I learned all this from his SSG who was basically standing guard on him (and did have a bike, his bike endorsement, etc.) Rather than throwing a ninja-punch at the guy, his punishment was to just look like an assclown in front of clothing and sales for a week after work.

And then of course, there's this jewel from the interwebz...

  The Dick Show
Posted by: Deja Entendu - 09-14-2016, 06:22 PM - Forum: The Smoke Pit -- General Discussion - Replies (16)

No, not gay porn; the Dick Show Podcast. It's spawned from the miserable ashes of Maddox's Biggest Problem in the Universe. Turns out Maddox is a pile of crap and his cohost Dick Masterson is the greatest. I recommend episode 13 and 14.

For those that do watch it, which cohost do you like the most right now? I'm a fan of Denzel Walkes myself.

  Anyone here Aircrew?
Posted by: Farts - 09-11-2016, 10:34 AM - Forum: Question and Support Board - Replies (47)

So here's the thing....

I'm a comm guy (2841) and I hate every waking second of it. Comm is a miserable thankless job riddled with computer work and admin shit. Honestly, I was really just gonna get out and wipe my hands of it all. Now, however, people in my field are getting recalled fairly commonly if they still have reserve time, which fills me with unspeakable dread. Through some short handed and probably flawed reasoning, I've decided my best course of action is a lat move, hopefully into aircrew.

My understanding of it is pretty basic. I worked with a handful of them in Spain and thought it seemed like a pretty cool job. For starters, aircraft and flight and whatnot make my dick rock hard. I've never had a bad time on the flightline. Just seems like the place to be. These guys apparently deploy all the time too, which is definitely a plus. I work on an air station now, and it seems like the squadrons are constantly going somewhere. It just generally sounds like a more enjoyable, meaningful job then sitting at my desk all day going through service requests and shit. Doing absolutely nothing would be immeasurably better than continuing to work with GCSS-MC. On a more skin deep petty note, they wear flight suits and get nifty badges and shit. That's pretty cool.

All that said, I imagine its not all sunshine and farts. I know air wingers work all sorts of weird/shitty hours. I know about the helo dunker thing, and can only assume there's even more training along that line. Plus going back to the school house as a corporal probably sucks.

I dunno. Figured I'd ask before I threw another 4 years of my life to the winds. Any advice anyone with any knowledge on the subject is welcome. If you think I'm retarded and can provide evidence, I'm glad to hear that too.

tl;dr- Comm guy hates comm and wants to try aircrew. Advice Appreciated. Thanks in advance

  Anybody in the 06xx field?
Posted by: Space Cowboy - 08-02-2016, 06:06 PM - Forum: Question and Support Board - Replies (33)

I am a bit curious as to what exactly the jobs in the 06xx field entail, specifically? Is this a field that a tech-head would enjoy? Here is a bit of background about myself:

- Currently a USMC poolee, looking for a career field that will translate well into the civilian world
- Self studied computer science for the past year
- Very interested in modern software development
- Not much of a hardware guy, although I've never truly dabbled with it to be honest

Can anybody help direct me towards something that may be up my alley? Thanks in advance guys!

Sorry I placed this in the wrong spot. I already used the search feature to look for a thread that was specifically for poolee questions regarding MOS's and such, to no avail.

  GI Bill Question
Posted by: ABACABB - 07-31-2016, 04:19 PM - Forum: Question and Support Board - Replies (2)

So, I'll be finishing my masters by the fall but will have almost 3 months left on the Chapter 33. My plan is to use the remainder for a language course at the local community college. Am I able to do that or would I have to be involved in yet another degree-granting program to even use the GI Bill for a non-technical class?

I'm planning to attend this class in person to get even a small stipend out of it. My wife wants me to do it online which is more practical because I work full time and have a 2 hour commute each day, but a.) I don't think I'll get a stipend from online because I'll be going less than half time and b.) I need to interact with people to learn another language. I get that online is fine for research-based courses, but probably won't do for language.
